The early bird........

Good morning! After ages, I am up early today. Yes 6 am is early for me, my natural (body-clock) waking time is much later 7:30, eightish!! And I'm enjoying my morning cup of tea to the accompaniment of bird songs. I still have an hour to do as I please till the rest of the family is awake. I love such spells of solitude - especially the early morning and late night ones. It helps me take stock - be a bit more organised, less rushed, a little bit in control. I can avoid my day being spent in an aimless rudderless manner. I also get some time to reconnect with myself, listen to my inner voice, which is otherwise ignored in the pell-mell of activities of the day rushing on in full swing.

When I was in Mumbai and working, getting up early was not a very pleasurable prospect. Get up early - still a zombie, rush through early morning routine, and rush out of home to catch a 7:15 fast or a 7:21 slow local. Brave the office crowds, each one moving in his own velocity of speed and time, lookout for a vacant seat (ah! luck), avoid any unpleasant interactions of the human kind and whew! somehow get to office. One is not likely to have a benign view of the world and everything else in this scenario, believe me!

And the world at work was another story altogether. I did not work for the fire department or an emergency hospital ward, but with my last role, everything was in a state of flux, urgency and chaos. They made believe that if I was not at my desk, everything would fall apart. Ha, for an inflated sense of importance!

I used to look forward to weekends!!! But any late rising on that day too was a no-no! There was the maid who would come at the appointed hour, there were bills to pay, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, meeting with friends, or just staying home with so much time on hands to do what I pleased!!!

Early mornings have their own charm - twittering bird sounds, a soft sun, a calm state of mind, the sense of richness of 18 more hours to your disposal, planning instead of letting the day take its own course, waking up your hubby with tea, making a good breakfast............. Recently, after coming here and having baby, no work to go to, I have become a bit more relaxed about this.

However, with G growing up and wanting my attention from the moment she wakes up right upto the time she sleeps, it is this morning hour that I plan to have for myself. Use if completely as I please, even if it is to catch some worms!!!
