A mad mad lunch party

We are having 5 people over for lunch this Sunday, counting 2 of us and lil G, it makes 7.5 people. Wow! The challenge also is cooking vegetarian Indian fare for our Belgian friends - some who have sampled this before and some who are brave enough to drive 2 hours for a first-time experience. I am a dyslexic cook, no consistency with my preparations!!

Am I stressed, overwhelmed, you bet! We started off by buying new crockery, a visit to IKEA! alas, not me, but my husband, who typically hates shopping. Menu consists of Chole, Alu-matar, Ajwain roti, jeera-onion rice, salad, ice-cream with fruits, and aloo tikis. I have never cooked for so many people before and kind of looking at this as a challenge.

We could have entertained a smaller group to start with, but we have been leading reclusive lives for a few months and wanted to get into the groove with a bang!!! I am leaving only the salad, rotis, tikis and rice for tomorrow. Making some 28 rotis will take a good 1 hour, I am sure, and i know just how many times little G will interrupt me for some small thing or attention. Add to that, I need to have everything in perfect order when guests arrive, so I can sit with them. G cries when she sees people, not being used to them, will have to manage that too.

And of course, I will have to go along with the flow, get into the act of conversation, and not act the part of harried caterer who only cares that food is served hot and eaten and appreciated. Next project being cleaning up.

So, tomorrow is a new day!!! À la prochaine!
