Guest Post!

By who else, but me only! He he, got you, didn't I? Strange how it feels, as if I am writing for somebody else's blog and I am not too sure what I should be writing about. I ask myself for suggestions. I also go through some old post and try to see if there is a theme to the posts, style etc... And somehow it seems that the consensus is Updates. So, whew, there you are...

Midway through June, it seems our holiday was long ago, though it is not even 3 full weeks since we are back. My bank account screams otherwise. There are more debits than credits. Of course, it was the new school session so bags, lunch boxes, uniforms, then book fees, this after paying book fees the first time around, and stuff like that, a birthday....

Lil G's bday a week ago, my baby turned 6. Had a party at home, with best friends from previous school and their siblings. All of them have older sisters and here it is assumed that siblings will tag along, so proactively invited them. Couple of kids dropped out, and the number was coincidentally a manageable six. So, with Daddy on Skype and an active Mamu-Chachu duo doing some running around - putting up decorations, fetching the cake etc, we had a nice time. Menu was decided by little miss. Which meant nachos instead of normal chips, and homemade mini samosas which I slaved over. Mamu made the sandwiches and we all had good fun.

An interesting game we played was story telling with the help of storycubes, a game I had chanced upon and once the kids were into the game, their creativity and imagination was a delight to listen to.

School is on full swing. Big G has just got used to her class being reshuffled and making new friends. Her study method is already semi-independent, but I make it a point to go through concepts with her. Lil G and me have our work cut out - she is not an enthusiastic writer and I have been lax, so if we don't discipline ourselves it will be difficult to keep pace. As it is, I have to go and talk to her teacher today, am already anxious about it.

As parents we see other aspects of our children and how quick they are on the uptake but teachers expect it in a very conventional sense. This saddens me, but honestly I can't find fault with them, it is just that they are short on time and have their own deliverables. Only thing is, they should not treat a child poorly if their handwriting is bad etc, that can leave a big impact.

My work from home opportunity has kind of stalled, so I am back to the existential mid-life crisis. I still think I need to devote more time to the kids, especially younger one. But expectations from people around me is something I am unable to handle. Open questions like what are you going to do, have you thought of something, etc etc makes it tough. Why can't they just let me be? Going for walks most days, touch wood.

How are you all doing? I have decided to be more sociable and make my blog rounds. Until then...

  1. Too importance on writing rather than reading or learning in many schools. I'd say, give little G the time to pace out her writing skills while ensuring that she has grasped the concepts. Try to ignore the teacher, if possible :-p Curious about the storycube. Do let me know about it.

    1. Ha ha, what, I took the teacher very seriously indeed and we have been working on bettering ourselves. Storycubes are these dices (a set of 9) with images and one builds a story out of them. A very engaging game, more here https://www.storycubes.com/products

  2. Laughing at your idea of a guest post!! I mean, sure, why not?! :)
I liked the birthday party description; small but much more fun that those obnoxiously expensive theme parties!!

    1. Ha ha, sure! Yes, I don't think I can handle theme parties and so many variables on my own.
