Weekend fifty-fifty

So Saturday was to be the school annual day for the kids. The theme for this year being  'Music' and all preparations had been going on full swing. Busy teachers, enthusiastic students, volunteering parents, and the rest of the parent and grandparent community looking forward to the festivities on Sat afternoon. My kids had given me some glimpses of sneak previews to the dance they were doing. I had got all the costumes and accessories sorted out in time, etc...

My first sense of misgiving came from the swirling flakes of snow outside. Surely not. Because except for covered roof on the stage where the students would perform, we parents would have to sit or stand and watch an open-air performance amidst gently falling snow flakes. Does it even sound good and beautiful?  No news of cancellation till afternoon, and nor was the snow letting up. lil G decided that she does not want to go out in the snow, dancing with L (her partner) is so saai (boring) and we let her be. Big G was close to tears at the thought of missing her dance and so the two of us packed ourselves up and went to school. Only to know that the student performances were to be cancelled but there was some eats and games organised in the classrooms. A big collective disappointment for a whole lot of us. Also, I missed the chance to get misty-eyed at my kids' school performance, a tradition it has become now. And they are not planning to schedule it for another day. They are making a DVD or sending the video by e-mail. That was our Saturday.

Sunday we were expecting guests for lunch. When I have people over I tend to go overboard a bit - in order to try out new stuff on poor unsuspecting people. All things which I could never make with my family get made with vengeance then. I mean I need an outlet for my kitchen creativity sometimes. And then there is the thing of having a modicum of cleanliness in the house. But all was done in good time and Sunday was a pleasant affair. My baked courgette koftas were well received.

Big G added some colour to the weekend by doing a sort of wall-art in her room, something which I'm very proud about. You can see it here. On that note, wish you all a great week!

    1. It was disappointing ZM:( Oh, let me assure you it is nothing exotic, don't get lauki so courgettes are a substitute, too lazy to deep-fry and hence resort to baking...Thanks, I will convey the same to Big G:)

  4. Wall art is very sweet. The bird is very cute,as is the girl at the left. Can imagine what a disappointment the cancellation was - why didnt the school plan ahead and have it indoors?

    1. Thanks, just to tell you it was added to and then when I was home last night, saw everything's been removed! Well, artistic license etc... The primary school does not have an indoor auditorium but why they did not use the one from the secondary school is really a mystery!!

  5. The art work looks lovely! :)

Awww, so sad that the performance got cancelled! They could have at least organised it on some other day, no? :(

That said, I do love the idea of watching children perform amidst gently falling snowflakes. Though I know it is practically very difficult, it does sound very romantic and sweet. :)

I totally understand the concept of having to vent out your kitchen creativity on unsuspecting guests. I do that with my poor brothers-in-law all the time. Whatever I know I can cook well or want to try out, and cannot cook and serve to the OH, I serve it to the BILs, and more often than not, it is well received. :)

  6. Thanks TGND! Only now it's off, but knowing Big G and the two week's Easter holidays, am sure she will do something else.
Yes, the cancellation was very sad, this year the weather is crazy, it's snowing now too:(
Ha ha, glad you understand that. I've been doing that for years now and raise my eyebrows when my hubby asks why I did not make if before!
