Mish-mash or pish-pash, of a post
You know that feeling when you hold your tears to appear strong, but the feeling stays inside you because there has been no release... And then at a highly inopportune or even a happy moment the tears and emotions come gushing out, surprising you and embarrassing you and everyone else around... especially when you explain that the tears are for something that happened like 2 days ago, huh! Well, this poorly crafted analogy refers to this post. It is just going to be a mish-mash of things. I could call it an update but it has nothing to bring to notice or anything of consequence in the scheme of things, so did not want an attention-grabbing title.
Big G turned 7, and I finally managed to bake a princess cake for her. I've been wanting to since years. Of course, when I went shopping for ingredients, I came back without butter. But since time was precious, I baked two sponge cakes with olive oil instead - not bad. I had to remove the doll's legs or bake another cake, and opted for the former. Watched random videos on decorating the cake. I found something to make the whipped cream a bit stiff and that helped me a lot. I've never used fondant and don't prefer butter cream icing. Best part was doing it on a Saturday while she was home, but managed :) I think she liked it.
Can't believe she is 7 years old and that I am a 7-year old parent too, I feel I've just not grown up enough ;). We fight and argue about a lot on things, she is very independent-minded kid, who faces these occasional lapses of confidence. We have agreed that she has to work on her whining delivery which makes me see red most times. She has learned to cycle now and every time the weather is good rushes out to do that. We both find lil G and her antics stomach-achingly funny and double up with laughter at the hilarious gems she dishes out from time to time. ok, so we have a big Mutual Admiration Club here:)
Lil G surprised me by knowing the words of every single rhyme in her day-book. I've recorded one, and want to record the entire set next time. The other day, she tells me, clutching her right side, I have a pain in my heart, on this side! Stomach-ache is a convenient excuse not to drink milk. We buy gifts for both the girls on each of their birthdays, so lil G has chosen a baby doll who now is with her the moment she is back from school. I am amazed and proud that she kept my secret about cake-baking from her sister, did not expect that.
Feeling thrilled that my friend has found someone to share her life with and they are going to get married in Dec. Feeling v. bad that I'll be missing on my brother's marriage, which is end of this month. Happy that my to-be sister-in-law is a very sweet person. The wheel of time is moving on and on, soon it's going to be 2014.
I have started with yoga and it feels really good, maybe because my body has not seen anything of exercise in quite a long time. No language classes or any such boring updates because I've not joined anything. Did a bit of freelancing work but would opt to work regular hours out of home, with other people. Crazy, I know when that makes for a whole new set of complications. I've decided (for now) that I don't really need friends if I have to work too hard at it. When I reach out to people, in person, or via email, FB etc and they don't reply, not even after a long time, they don't need new people in their lives, and enough said. Ok, did get a lot off my chest :)
ETA: Pish-pash is a rice dish which my room-mate used to make. Add rice, potatoes whole, carrots, cauliflowers, onions, beans, eggs, salt, pepper and a dollop of butter together and pressure-cook to make pish-pash. (from what I recollect).
