The party, persistent inertia, break-ins...
So I am done with hosting the birthday party. This time I did nothing much - for the food prep, that is. I went with my cup-cakes, notable for not rising but soft and edible nevertheless, fruit sticks, popcorn, biscuits, juice or milk choice, chips (as an afterthought). I wish I'd kept french fries or friets, something warm. The kids were really well-behaved and seemed to enjoy, and this time since we did not have to heed to any neighbour downstairs could create as much noise and ruckus as they wanted too.
Hide-and-seek, tik-tak piano ( a sort of 'statue' game), lemon-in-the-spoon race, musical chairs, and passing the parcel...managed with the Dutch I knew. Places where I got stuck, Big G played translator. Lil G was very much a part of the group and managed to hold her own, even cracking jokes, making the whole group laugh. Had a little bit of talk with Big G, who had some, let's say, definite expectations regarding cadeautjes (gifts) she would get. We arrived at the conclusion that this party is for fun, not a means to get gifts etc. And also you don't have to like or make friends with someone just because they get you gifts but just because you like them and want to be friends. Hopefully, it sinks in.
Have been reading in the local news about a lot of break-ins in this area. Which makes me scared, I'm alone most days. We had some local friends over for tea and came to know that a lot of these break-ins remain unreported because the mayor of this region wants the reputation of this area to remain unblemished!! But I am so paranoid now that when I return home I fling open the door, do a random check, and tell the children to stay behind me and am even planning to collect names and numbers of neighbours to reach out to in emergency. And I get startled by the smallest of sounds. Talk turned to immigrants (which seems a big concern for the natives here) and how they are a burden on the system. Those who don't work and pay tax and live off the social security system. I also learnt a bit about how the education system is structured here and plan to write about it in detail as it is not very obvious to people who are from other countries.
Other than that, this week is a bit easy. But do I touch any pending home-jobs, NO! Trying to get back to reading, but I seem to have lost my ability to read, forget read fast. I am really regretting the fact that I could not join a language class. And my non-motivation with fitness continues :( As my propensity for eating chocolate increases.
Was very disheartened with the happenings at Tehelka. Such a lying MCP, Tarun Tejpal and I have even lesser to say about his cohort Shoma Chaudhary. She is an apt example of how women are women's worst enemies. The young journalist has some courage to stand up against these lot. AAP going bust was almost expected, felt a pity for all those cheering the AAP party. Seriously, is it so easy for someone to come up, form a party and offer things like electricity on a 50% discount. We can't afford to be so gullible surely. Politics is always going to be a case of choosing the lesser evil, a case of going with the known and proven devil so to say. What are your thoughts on this?

Stay safe! I'm sure you all will be okay but taking the neighhour's numbers is a good idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks Roshni, I have to work on that promptly!
DeleteIf the kids had a good time, it was a successful party !!! My blood boils when I think about how power corrupts!
ReplyDeleteHe he, that is true! Yes, the state of affairs is such that soon power and corruption will be synonyms!
Deletebut i think AAP has still got some fire left. what if not now, they may be better prepared for future elections.. provided they keep coming in the news and keep getting public attention/ support
ReplyDeleteThey had a chance to be different, but have bungled up majorly! I am not so sure if they will get a second chance, my cynical view on this.
DeleteI was transported to parties hosted by my parents when I was a child - I remember all those games and I remember having a similar conversation with my mom where she explained I did not have to host parties or make friends to get gifts - that was not the purpose :D :D So, thank you for taking me down memory lane :)
ReplyDeleteDo stay safe! And I can relate to your non-motivation with fitness - I am in the same boat :P
As far as recent happenings are concerned, apart from Tejpal, I am more disheartened by the Aarushi-Hemraj murder-case verdict...I feel our judiciary got it wrong this time...
Lol, you are welcome, Divya! Thanks for the concern. Seriously, you too, it gets even more difficult during the winters for me. I am totally confused about theAarushi-Hemraj murder case, I think it's so long-drawn and with the investigating teams changed, some vital information seems to be missing or overlooked. Very sad state of affairs.
DeleteHey take care..Since we shifted to Noida, I too have been a bit paranoid and i get worried when i have to stay alone overnight. I check and recheck each and every door. Lock our bedroom door and keep my neighbour's number on last dial for a quick dial just in case...
ReplyDeleteWould love to see the pictures of the party!!
ZM, I do that too and extremely startled with small sounds, which I realise keep happening all the time:), all this till sleep takes over :D. We have very few pics, so involved with the party forgot to take many :(
