Mike testing......some firsts

This post is about some random first-time stuff for us here at the wren't nest. Some totally unrelated and inconsequential stuff.

1. Last Sunday, we celebrated our first Holi as a family. The celebration was at the Radhadesh Temple, Ardennes. There was an aarti first, followed by prasad (lunch) and a holi bonfire and gulal. My little one jumped into the fray as she does with all abandon and enthusiasm and my elder one was a bit clingy, going on about wanting pink color. The gulal was finished before we made it to the venue, but we managed to play by just asking random strangers for a bit of color :) Hubby and me also realized it was the first time we played Holi with each other - in our (almost) 10 years of marriage.

2. I went swimming on my own! No, no full points on that one, because I held on to the noodle (soucis as they call here) for dear life and did not attempt to swim even a half lap without it. So far, it's been swimming only with the instructor. Well, I am glad I have walked that way, just have to do it more often and sans soucis.

3. Little G went for her first school outing - to the airport and came back home as one too!! I will add the picture later, and soon. Good idea to use for a fancy dress day at school. Best is she was able to narrate some stuff to me - plane come and goes like this, XYZ held my hand hard and it's paining now, Mama, kiss it. Juff (teacher) gave coco (choco) sandwich to eat, etc.

4. Big G did well in some class test they have to determine learning and proficiency levels for graduating to the next class. Had no clue that they were going to have one, no idea that when the teacher asked parents to come it was something so imp., guess it was communicated but lost in translation. Big G is not one to tell me daily stuff from school. She lives in a world of friends, and colours and why's and wherefores which are sometimes removed from day to day situations. A pleasant surprise, proud parents and a resolve for myself to work on more learning in the bits and pieces manner by which we approach things.

5. In the 5 years since we had our kids, this is the first time we went out on our own for our anniversary dinner. Had arranged for a babysitter for the kids and the 3 hours just flew by. Again a first for me, Japanese food, loved it.  The sea weed salad was out of the world, amongst other stuff we tried. Plan to do it again with kids.

6. Have introduced fixed menu of the day at home - cook same stuff for all. No special menu for kids/adults as per individual preferences. Saves me a lot of bother - and am happy to see both the kids eating or at least attempting to eat what I make, simply because there is no alternative. So string beans, bhindi, jowar, bajra rotis, palak dal, all have found acceptance. Am I happy and relieved!

7. Also, on the blog front, my first follower and my first tag! Am a bit late to do it, since I first wanted to finish this post since 3 days, yes a busy weekend. But doing that next. Have a great week!
