Annual day and proud parents!

Last Saturday was the annual festival (jaarlikse feestdag) in the kids school. It is theme-based and this year the theme was 'Flying'. Both the girls, actually, all the children in the class were to take part. I remember very well in 2010, which was Big G's first year at school here, she was very reluctant to be on stage. Mostly for her,  it was  yet another change in the series of changes which began in 2009 - back to India, birth of a baby sister, school in India, then back to Belgium, school in a totally new language, no firm friends because of lack of language, etc. Feel bad sometimes on the way we managed to make things a bit difficult for her.

When the performance started, we saw that the poor thing was crying on stage. She kept looking back at us and wanted to come to us, but had to stay with her class till all the  performances were done with. But, things have gotten  better, she's picked up the language, she was given some extra coaching in language and she made friends, now they are a pack of 5 girls who get along very well. And she looks forward to go to school everyday.

This year was special as both Big G and Lil G were to perform. Now when it comes to Lil G, I never have the same amount of anxiety as I had/have when it comes to her big sister. Lil G is this infectious, super-confident personality. She smiles, waves a big hello and talks to everyone, even strangers and that is something I need to worry about. Lil G's class was dressed as air hostesses and stewards. As the classes were brought in line close to the stage, I rushed in to take pics and I see Lil G smiling and waving to me and telling anyone and everyone - Look, that's my mama (kijk, dar is mijn mama!) . And my little bundle has gone on stage and danced her bit, even prodded her partner to dance, searched for us, waved to us and then settled down with her class to watch the others' performances. She is cool!

Big G's dance was to some pretty popular Belgian song (the whole audience was singing, but no idea which one). It was done in pairs - boy and girl, and I understood that the boy (pilot?) was very proud and possessive about his aircraft but it was taken away and the girl had to console them and then they danced around. Pretty layman explanation, wysiwig types! We've caught this on video and it made me so proud. Normally I shed tears at almost everyone of Big G's performances (have not been too many), but this time I did not. I'm just a sentimental, proud mama, sniff!

  1. Aww! That must have been so special to watch! And well done Big G, to have overcome all that! Children do adapt so well! And Lil G sounds so adorable! I can totally understand why mama is so sentimental :)
