The week that was............
I write as I run, simply because I need to get it done with. It's been another of those long weekends. Tomorrow is the last day to go. And then life gets back to normal, I live in hope!! So bits and pieces of what's been happening at this end.
Big G was down with a viral infection and home all of last week. She is better now and raring to get to school. Lil G, thankfully, did not catch it and I pray to God nothing's incubating. Thankfully, Big G has learnt to swallow the medicine and does it with little coaxing. Con is that she has watched a lot of TV and asks for it all the time. We made small progress with some Origami, none with practicing reading.
The sofa's arrived! Both hubby and me were walking about with stupid grins, this is our first sofa together! Now need to just get some cushions which both the G's have promised to help me pick up. Sigh, no postponing those get-togethers anymore. Well, we are planning to start with our neighbour who very kindly helped us to get them inside!!
Oh, and did I tell you that for the last 3, maybe 4 odd months, my stove has been gradually but definitely reneging on me. So first, it was the two big burners which defaulted. I made do with the 2 little ones, got a small pan especially for that. Soon I ended up with one running burner. And for someone like me who thinks cooking is a chore, this was right down punishment. What took me 1 hour normally to cook now took more than twice the time. Finally, we told the landlord and the replacement is happening this Wednesday!
Now, I should be happy with that, looking forward to it actually. Except that wednesdays are small days at school and I feel very rushed in general. I don't get any time for myself. And then this intrusion of people at home and keeping kids at bay and no, it's that I will need to keep my kitchen spotless. A white kitchen it is! And Belgians, I tell you, are so finicky about cleanliness. So, bringing out the brush and broom and bleach tomorrow.
And finally oh, Thursday is the D-day, have my exam for French. Yes, normally I am a nervous wreck for exams. Always used to be this last minute type, who never had time for revision, only vision. This time am so cool that it's unusual. Why do these tests/exams interfere with my French dalliance? It just makes me realise how very less I know my paramour!! Honestly though, never found the grammar easy! Any of you, who have learnt a foreign language, please do share your technique of learning it. Did you approach it grammar way or speech only at first or reading books, listening to songs, TV etc? How many hours a day/week did you put in to learn the language? I don't get any opportunity to speak it outside the class as I don't stay in a French speaking area - the biggest limitation as I see it. I will miss my classmates too, we are a curious group even to ourselves. And the last day is a celebration, though no definite plans still.
And I'm out of breath now, lack of proteins...............Need to include more proteins in our diet. Throw in your suggestions please - I make chole, kala chana, rajma, lobia every alternate day! See you on the other side of the week!

Whoa! sounds like a packed weekend..
ReplyDeleteHope big G is better now..and yay on the sofa set and for the get-togethers..I know what you mean..we don't have a dining table and I kinda find it a little delicate to have guests over and ask them to eat like a buffet..although it hasn't stopped us having guests over..;-)
grammar is tough..(I approached it grammar way) only practice practice and more practice..by way of workbooks/worksheet or read...best way is to talk to a native or as a group..but I always developed cold feet when faced with an opportunity to speak..:-0
proteins?..err..not so sure, maybe you could try sambhar, dal??
Thanks Uma, am doing the grammar bit, though it's all uphill. Yes, this year we are speaking only French in class and it's helped to loosen my tongue and still my hands, but long way to go..........
DeleteDal, sambhar, do that too. will keep looking at more options:)
OhOh!! you have a busy life!!! All the best for your exams :)
ReplyDeleteHope kids are doing great.
Thank you ZM, kids are fine now, touchwood!
Deleteheheh neighbors who helped them get inside are the first ones to be treated - :))
ReplyDelete'we are a curious group even to ourselves. ' that's an awesome line
Yup, the system is a bit of LIFO types, but doesn't matter really does it!
DeleteWe are, we are, I will do a post on my class mates sometime.
