G Talk - 2

When I can't think of writing a inspiring or well thought-out post, I  look around and am inspired with the little people at home and what's better than sharing them here.

Lil G and me doing some ABC on starfall. The child can't remember the alphabets and answers me with a shrug most times. So I told her this is S, see it looks like a duckie going to swim, this way you can remember easily. After a few other things, we come back to S and I ask her, so which alphabet is this? Lil G says - Duckie going to swim? But am happy to say that she is making some effort and even pride at remembering stuff.

Big G and her imaginary hex scare is still not resolved. So movement from one room to another is not done confidently. Or she will put lights on and then go. Whilst this is happening no one must talk behind her back or she will come running and with a flying leap land on the sofa and glare at us. No amount of counselling from us seems to help her. Of course, lil G is the one to officially accompany her all over the house. This weekend lil G was ill and was lying on the sofa.  Big G was scared to go and do su-su. And I was not going to help her. Lil G who takes her job very seriously sighed and pushed the blanket away, put the lights on and called out, Bena, you can come now!!!

Amongst one of the many nicknames for both the Gs has been kunni, meaning puppy. This was sometime when lil G was a baby, Big G a toddler of 3.5. We had gone on a walk, lil G in her pram and met another neighbour walking her puppy. We got  talking and the lady said that she'd recently got the puppy for her little son to play with. Big G tells her, We too have a puppy in our home. She is sitting on the pram as she can't still walk. Neighbour: speechless for a while.

    lol on the puppy name.. my bro used to always call me "jimmy" during school days.. when he returns home from college if he doesn't see me in living room he will start saying "jimmy jimmy where are you? jimmy chu chu chuuuu" like how we call upon a puppy.. :)
    Adi is still scared to go in dark. even with lights on she cannot go to bathroom on her own.. I tried many ways but no luck yet.. kudos to lil G on that.. bravo girl :)

      That's sweet and also funny Ani:)Siblings have their own games. Yes, I don't push Big G too much though it can get pretty irritating at times. Lil G is a brave kid:)

May 2013 - The Elusive One

Think back to a month in your life. Do you remember any month or period specifically from the sweeping past or present? Maybe the month before the board exams, last month in the hostel eagerly awaiting to get back home, the month before you were getting hitched that was crammed with frantic shopping and plans on the side to run-away solo or when you were expecting your first baby, waiting for the moment and savoring the peace as you balance one of the last books you will read in peace on your tummy.. Goodbye, Mr. Goosens!

When we saw the funeral notice with the name Christoph Goosens in the building lobby we did not quite know what to expect. It was in Dutch, a language we are not too familiar with. Only the previous day I had spoken to him; we had greeted each other and he had grinned his toothless smile.  He always held the door for me, a person of unfailing courtesy. His wife/partner had been put in a psychiatric ward of the Old People's Home a few months ago. The mind picks up pieces of information and makes random connections. I told my husband that the notice probably was about his wife passing away. 'Innige deelneming' - is what you say in Dutch to express condolence. I was wondering what I would actually say when I met him. We realised our mistake when another neighbour informed us that it was the man himself who had passed away in his sleep Monday night. His partner, he corrected our assumption, had died 3 months ago. They rented the ground-floor apartment. Mr. Goosens did ...
