Snowy tales, flaky news

Street view at 8:00 am
It started snowing Sunday night. Love to see snow falling. Unlike rainfall, snow flakes fall so gently, dreamily. Sometimes they have a sinister feeling too. What are they trying to cover up?

I got up Monday morning to see a bright light in the balcony at 6 in the morning and for a brief moment considered if the aliens have landed!

Everything was covered under a pristine white blanket of snow. So, what's the French word for snow? I have classes this week and will resort to miming and nodding my head a lot after this long break, which incidentally I do even during normal conversation:-).

We've spent 2 days walking to school and back in the snow. It was fun and a lot of hard work pushing the pram. Especially when I had to do my grocery shopping, a great shoulder workout. And lil G is not so little any more.

Thankfully, lil G has decided she is no longer a baby and so we are leaving the pram behind from tomorrow. And starting for school like 45 minutes early :-) Today the sun has come out and the snow is a-melting. It feels slushy to walk on. Leaving you with some more pictures. How's the weather in your place?

  1. I had a Xmas postcard once which I treasured for a long long time. One of those old-fashioned ones showing a snowy village scene, reindeers and sleigh-bells and thatched cottages. Your first photo reminds me of that! So dreamy and beautiful...love it!! I can guess it must be hard getting to school, shopping etc.
The weather here? Much better now. warmer for sure. But they predict rain and fog from tomm...let's see...

    1. Thanks, here I have to convince lil G that it is indeed morning when we are setting out. Glad you're having a warmer weather there, I would've thought that builders would've installed radiators and wall-heaters in buildings, at least in the modern ones.

  2. Its raining here.. I love the day it snows, the fresh snow on the ground like white carpet that feels so soft as you walk but the after days are horrible with slippery glass like pavements...

  3. I know exactly what you mean! Yesterday, when I woke up (my son woke me up, actually :p ) the sky seemed to be glowing white! Sure enough, there was snow on all the roofs around, the backyard, the streets...it was something! And then it snowed some more. I loved looking at the snowflakes gently drop to ground - beautiful!

Hey, I'll post those heated discussion links when replying to your comment - just a heads up! :)

    1. Hey Divya, don't feel jealous, 16 degrees is my ideal temperature. I can understand Mumbai is v. hot, but snow is another extreme.

    1. Thanks ZM, lil G does not like snow much, she was asking me when this winter will get over. Big G made snow balls on the way back home. Heard it's not as cold as it was a few weeks ago Delhi side.

    1. I understand, snow is great when you are inside looking out, then I love snow too. These days, using it as an exercise option, pushing a pram through it is pretty hard work:)

  9. Beautiful pics! Snow always fascinates me, but I have never had a chance to experience snowfall in reality. I would love to someday! :)

The picture on the left - the house covered in snow - in the bottom-most photograph in your post - it is way too beautiful. Looks just like a picture postcard. :)

  10. Thanks TGND! It's great to experience snow for the first time. I saw it when we visited Shimla:) It's pretty much of an inconvenience practically speaking. But v. romantic and charming when you are in a warm place looking out:)
