A Saturday in my life...Blogging Marathon 2014 Post 18

Yesterday, back from school, both the kids were a bit cranky and tired. It was a cold day and also the end of the week for them. Kids need recharge time too. I thought some hearty food and a goodnight's sleep would be the best thing for them. Only, lil G started complaining of stomach cramps sometime before dinner, and refused to eat anything. I called up my Mother and she told me what to give her and definitely to take her to the doctor today. Lil G slept ok to begin with but was up all night with very bad cramps and threw up a couple of times too. I tried to rub her stomach and back to comfort her, but was pretty much helpless in the face of her pain.

I was also upset over the news of the passing away of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Junior HR Minister, Shashi Tharoor, and the curious circumstances of the case. Read up in bits and pieces while I was up at night.

Saturday morning dawned and Lil G finally slept for a while. I prepared some tea and breakfast and dressed up Big G for her tennis class. My husband offered to take her to the class, and I took Lil G to the Doctor. She threw up on the way and at the Doctor's too. Done with the check-up, purchased medicines, and got back home, settled her, and she finally slept for a few hours. In that time, I hurried to make lunch for us. I also wanted to vacuum the house, as it was in a state and I'd been lax the previous day. Managed to get started on that while Big G got home.

The house seemed suddenly so silent with Lil G sleeping. Big G had lunch and sat down to read her book. We all went about our tasks. I was like a zombie, but managed to get a lot of house-work done in that state. The first thing that Big G asked when she got home was about Lil G. She asked me if she could kiss her, only if that does not make her sick, because she does not want to miss school. The first thing Lil G asked me when she woke up was 'where is Bena?' and came out to meet her sister. There was a joyous reunion of sorts, a friendly camaraderie which lasted a while.

Lil G is, touchwood, doing much better now. How can I say that with certainty? I was reading a story to her and she has interrupted me after every sentence to offer her views and bombard me with questions. Then there was predictable fight with her sister over the iPad. She even ate with a semblance of appetite. A small argument on what to wear, which I conceded. And her cheery playful demeanor on display. Keeping fingers crossed. Another good thing is my idlis finally have come out soft and pillowy, which buoyed my mood somewhat. I was almost sure I wouldn't be writing my post for today, but then All's well that ends well.

How was your day today?

  1. You sure had a busy Saturday! It's good to know that Lil G is better. It's heartbreaking to see an ill child. I had an unusually relaxed Saturday. Daughter had a birthday party, husband and I went and did some Indian food shopping. And the rest of the time was spent at home, housework, ironing, and just relaxing :)

  2. Hope Lil g is perfectly ok now.....I've actually been having similar symptoms this weekend (minus the throwing up)! A really busy Saturday (mom in law dropped to station, errands, and several hours spent in selecting and transporting a bicycle - bought one for the husband) left me exhausted. Isn't it nice when siblings are friendly and affectionate to each other? Most days, I just settle for distant civility :)

    1. Thanks Aparna, she is much better today! Oh, you too, try to take it easy over Sunday at least. I guess for working people, weekends are even more packed. Yes, it is nice when there is friendly camaraderie b/w the two, I hate being referee.
