Churmuri...Blogging Marathon 2014 Post 21
Churmuri |
One of the things that we used to look forward to during summer vacations was Churmuri. It is made of puffed rice/murmura. This is a sort of street snack typical of North Karnataka.
It looks like and may resemble a sukha bhel but is actually different in the taste.
There are many ways to make it, but here is how I make it -
1.First fry the puffed rice/murmura in a teaspoon of oil with some turmeric and salt. You can also add peanuts at this stage.
2. Fry chopped spring onions, and tomatoes and green chillies together. I like the mixture to retain it's bite.
3. Take some roasted chana dal and powder it.
4.Mix the puffed rice, onion-tomato mixture, add the roasted chana dal powder, so it coats the puffed rice mixture.
5. Add a half-spoon of sugar and some lime juice to balance the flavours, which ought to be notes of spicy, sour, gentle hint of sweet and crunchy throughout.
6. One could add chopped coriander leaves and also serve fried whole green chillies with it.
yummy... love them.

DeleteYum! I love it too. I have had the Bengali version they call it by the same name. I did not know they made it in North Karnataka.
